Position Summary:
Under the general guidance of the Director, Corporate Safety and Security, the Associate Director, Airport Health & Safety will oversee the Toronto Pearson Safety Program and the Occupational Health & Safety Management Program. This is the lead health and safety role in the organization, and involves developing and implementing safety strategies, monitoring safety performance, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a passion for safety and will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety and well-being across the organization. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing success of the GTAA, a recognized leader in airport safety. The GTAA was recently named a 2024 Finalist for Canada’s Best Safety Culture, and the new hire will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing this reputation.


As Associate Director, Airport Health and Safety, you will:
  • Oversee and advance the development and implementation of the organization's health and safety strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate goals
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to measure and drive safety performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, unions, regulatory agencies, and tenants to foster a safety culture
  • Oversee the activities of the safety committees to promote inclusion and advocacy of safety throughout the organization and airport community
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks and implement effective control measures
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs
  • Lead the conduct of thorough investigations of incidents and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance safety performance
  • Drive safety initiatives and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Promote and foster a culture of safety and well-being across the airport community
  • Advance safety programs, develop and implement innovative safety programs
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance safety practices
  • Stay ahead of the curve, research and implement industry best practices
  • Oversee airport-wide security training programs, including Security Awareness, Threat Risk Assessment, Security Legislation, and Active Assailant training
  • Ensure delivery of standard business unit safety training, such as Concern Review, Threat/Hazard Identification Risk Assessment, Root Cause Analysis, and Risk Analysis
  • Lead and Inspire: Motivate and empower the team to achieve organizational goals
  • Drive Innovation and Excellence by fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

  • Post-Secondary diploma in safety, airport/aviation management, occupational health management
  • Safety (Occupational/Aviation) /Auditor Training
  • Minimum 7 years of experience within airport, aviation safety, occupational health and safety environment or relevant experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in People Management (direct report or cross-functional)
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint)
