The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Quality Lead, Clinical Affairs for approximately 2 years.

The Quality Lead, Clinical Affairs reports to the Manager, Community Partnerships and Clinical Affairs. The Quality Lead, Clinical Affairs will also receive direction from the Associate Dean, Clinical Affairs and Associate Dean, Curriculum. The Quality Lead, Clinical Affairs will work closely with the DVLC liaisons, the DVM program office and 4th year course coordinators within the University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM).

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Works with DVLC partners, is accountable for ensuring accurate and professional representation of the UCVM
  • Assures that UCVM, our new and long-term partner clinics, and community sites are meeting the agreed terms and responsibilities. Including but not limited to: COE compliance, insurance, incident reporting and registration
  • Communicates with community partners to plan in-person inspections
    • Planning, preparing, and sharing reports on findings. Including: tracking improvements/ regression, working to offer resources, information, support, and formulating action plans to achieve compliance. Where required, monitoring and follow up on corrective actions
  • Prepare reports and monitor the status by providing summary data to the manager, Associate Deans and leadership to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Immediately reports non-compliance. Works with various stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are appropriately implemented in a timely manner
  • Provides guidance to responsible parties to enable them to complete corrective actions in a manner that satisfies applicable regulations
  • Acts at the subject matter expert on local and AVMA COE regulations. Responsible for keeping up-to-date on current and changing regulations
  • Acts as the expert on other post-secondary distributed learning models
  • Ensures our community partners have access to all the benefits of being part of the UCalgary and UCVM community. These including but are not limited to
    • Teaching and learning resources
    • UCalgary Library and Resources
    • UCVM and DVLC Newsletters and communications
    • Applicable software
  • Participates in the development of a compliance and quality program
  • Participate in annual site visits of clinical facilities and assist in the follow-up of recommendations
  • Provides advice and guidance to recommend new and appropriate resources to stakeholders through networking, research, continuing education, and knowledge transfer
  • Participate in establishing procedures or best practices related to clinic operations

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • An Animal Health Technology diploma and registration (or eligibility for registration) as an Animal Health Technologist in Alberta in addition to 3 to 5 years previous clinical experience as an Animal Health Technologist in a clinical setting is required
  • Graduate degree in a relevant area is an asset
  • A combination of education and experience in compliance and assurance is an asset
  • A professional designation such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Registered Biosafety Professional (RBP) is an asset
  • Demonstrated and thorough knowledge of ABVMA Practice Inspection and Practice Standards and the Accreditation policies and procedures of the AVMA council on education is required
  • Knowledge of the Human Pathogens and Toxins Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate interaction with a variety of facilities users is needed (fluency in English is necessary) as well as the ability to work independently
  • Experience drafting standard operating procedures is an asset
  • Strong project management, and operational experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills, strong organizational, and excellent interpersonal skills are required
  • Having previous experience in a teaching or research setting would be considered an asset
