The Role

  • Monitor assigned accounts and all applicable collection reports to identify payment trends.
  • Handle all outbound and inbound collection calls within stipulated timelines in a professional manner and in accordance with debt collection practices and privacy regulations.
  • Respond to all electronic correspondence within set timelines, ensuring timely follow-up on payment arrangements.
  • Evaluate accounts to establish reason for past due status and negotiate payment arrangements to bring accounts current.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure satisfactory collection and payment results, such as payment date/payment frequency changes and deferral requests.
  • Work closely with Residential and commercial Renewals teams to achieve resolution on loans past maturity, following up on exceptions due to refinances.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate notes of all correspondence, payment arrangements, communications, and matters of interest on debt collection system.
  • Update mortgage system with any information pertaining to clients or loans.
  • Understand and follow policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Prepare specific reports on assigned categories on a monthly basis.

About You

  • A diploma program in a related discipline and a minimum of 2 years of collections experience are required.
  • 2 years' experience in a financial service industry is also a requirement.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are necessary.
  • Strong negotiation skills are required.
  • The incumbent must be able to show empathy while remaining strong and thick-skinned.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a fast-changing environment is essential.
  • PPlus and XRS system knowledge is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, and Excel is required.
  • Strong attention to detail with an eye for accuracy is necessary.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously is required.
  • Creative, self-disciplined, and capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently and with a sense of urgency.
  • The incumbent must work well in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills are required.
  • Experience with HELOC (Home Equity Line of Credit) is preferred but not required.
