We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our team in Canada, providing expert advice on Canadian and US tax planning initiatives and compliance.

About the Role

This key position involves working closely with staff, providing support to team leaders, and demonstrating strong time-management skills. You will be responsible for preparing Canadian and US individual and trust income tax returns, reviewing tax returns prepared by junior staff, maintaining client files, and corresponding with clients and tax authorities.

Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, you will have excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. A strong understanding of Canadian and US personal tax laws is essential, including passive foreign investment corporation and controlled foreign corporation regimes, US estate, gift, and trust compliance, and other relevant matters.

Your Responsibilities
  • Prepare complex tax returns and calculations, including Form 5471, 8621, and estate and gift tax returns
  • Review tax returns prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain client files, ensuring timely completion of returns and schedules
  • Correspond with clients and tax authorities, providing clear and concise information
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience specializing in Canadian and/or US personal tax preparation
  • Accounting or business undergraduate degree or diploma
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and Excel
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills, with French language skills an asset
  • US Professional designation (CPA or EA) and/or Canadian Professional designation (CPA)
