Job Summary

The Halton District School Board is seeking qualified ESL instructors to join our team. As an ESL instructor, you will be responsible for teaching English as a Second Language courses to adult learners using the CLB standards and framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver English as a Second Language classes in a LINC/ESL program based on the PBLA guidelines
  • Conduct classes in a respectful and engaging manner, which fosters self-directed learning leading to the achievement of personal goals
  • Assess learners' language gains and progress according to the Canadian Language Benchmarks using Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) protocols
  • Develop and deliver sector-specific language training, as required
  • Use a variety of online delivery tools and software to provide instruction
Requirements
  • OCELT designation
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience in an adult second language learning environment
  • Strong understanding of and experience in using the Canadian Language Benchmarks and the associated Curriculum Guidelines
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt teaching methodology to the needs/skill levels of learners
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing instruction using a variety of online delivery tools and software
  • Experience with Google Classroom, an asset
  • Ability to design units/lessons in a culturally diverse and respectful learning environment
