Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Respiratory Therapist to join our team in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at BC Children's Hospital.

About the Role

This is a critical care position that requires a strong foundation in respiratory therapy, with a focus on providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess patients' medical histories and conduct thorough assessments of their physiological conditions.
  • Recommend appropriate care and document patient responses and outcomes.
  • Set up, check, perform quality control procedures, and operate respiratory equipment as needed.
  • Initiate, monitor, and assess ventilator-dependent patients according to established care protocols.
  • Administer individualized medical gas therapies and provide invasive and non-invasive cardio-pulmonary monitoring.
  • Evaluate patient responses during testing, therapies, and treatments, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Respond to cardiac arrests and other emergency calls, prioritizing patient safety.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Qualifications:
  • A graduate degree from an accredited school of respiratory therapy and successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care examination.
  • Current registration with British Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT) and Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT).
  • Basic Life Support certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate relevant respiratory equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
