Job Title: Commissioner, Community Development

About the Role:

The Town of Oakville is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commissioner of Community Development to lead the organization in achieving its strategic plan. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a strategic role in driving the development of the town's community, working closely with the Chief Administrative Officer and other senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership to help Oakville achieve its vision to be a vibrant and livable community for all.
  • Champion the use of sound business planning, exceptional management practices, and sustainable resource stewardship for a team of directors.
  • Deliver corporate strategies and long-term plans for the Commission that guide the development of land in accordance with the Livable Oakville Official Plan.
  • Manage sensitive and controversial issues with media, ratepayers, and the community.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with all stakeholders and encourage the community to be active and engaged in the municipality's growth and development.

Requirements:

  • Registered planner with experience leading large teams, ideally within a unionized environment.
  • Accomplished leader with senior executive positions in municipal government.
  • Financial skills to develop and administer complex operating and capital budgets.
  • Persuasive and skilled at negotiating agreements with multiple parties.
  • Politically astute with experience working at the highest levels of your organization and directly with elected officials.
