Compassionate Family Support Specialist

Wood's Homes is a leading not-for-profit mental health centre based in Calgary, with locations across Alberta. Our mission is to foster good mental health and well-being so everyone can thrive in their community.
We are seeking one (1) full-time Family Support Counsellor I to join our dedicated team at Family Connections. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality family support services to children and families in care.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional service delivery, adhere to the Health and Safety Management System, and maintain strong relationships with families, communities, and professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Advocacy and Resource Development: The Family Support Counsellor will advocate for families, supporting them in developing networks of resources within their community and teaching them self-advocacy skills.
- Parent Skills Training and Counselling: They will provide supportive individual and family counselling, as well as parent skills training, to empower families and promote positive outcomes.
- Crisis Intervention and Safety: The successful candidate will intervene directly in crisis situations, ensuring the safety of all family members, and provide follow-up care as required.
- Collaboration and Communication: They will participate in regular supervision, case reviews, clinical rounds, and team meetings to ensure effective service delivery and coordination.
- Degree and Experience: A degree in one of the Human Sciences, Childcare, or a related field, along with minimum two (2) to four (4) years' experience working with infants, children, adolescents, and families.
- Driver's License and Transportation: A full, non-GDL class 5 driver's license and own transportation are required.
