Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention Lead

As a valued member of the Squamish Nation's Health and Wellness Department, the Harm Reduction and Overdose Prevention Lead plays a critical role in supporting the community's health and well-being. Reporting to the Manager, Community Health & Wellness Division, this position is responsible for supervising and providing guidance to peer support workers, healthcare providers, and Squamish People in the delivery of high-quality services and programs.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and support peer support workers and healthcare providers in the delivery of harm reduction and overdose prevention services.
• Assist clients in supervised consumption as part of harm reduction efforts.
• Perform a variety of duties in the operation of the OPS, including communications, maintenance, safety management, mobile site logistics, and data collection and submission.
• Supervise peer support workers, coordinate and co-facilitate peer orientation and ongoing training, and provide peer-based mentoring and leadership skills development.
• Promote a safe and healthy environment that instills a sense of dignity and self-respect for all peer workers and Squamish People.
• Support the Manager by attending partner meetings relevant to harm reduction, overdose prevention, and substance use.
Requirements
• Combination of relevant experience, education, and training.
• Understanding of and competency in Indigenous cultural safety and humility, or willingness to learn.
• Professional, adaptable communication style with strong interpersonal skills.
• High level of emotional intelligence, patience, flexibility, and integrity.
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills, with strong time management abilities.
• Ability to deliver information with tact and diplomacy.
• Excellent customer service skills alongside the ability to communicate accurately and in a timely manner.
• Strong skills in manipulating large data sets.
• Ability to maintain, conceptualize, and develop reports regarding a variety of operational and informational statistics.
• Understanding of quality assurance processes and ability to educate staff on quality improvement changes related to scheduling.
• Strong communication skills to accurately convey important information over the phone, in person, or via email to patients and medical staff.
• Ability to quickly resolve scheduling and logistics conflicts.
• Ability to demonstrate active listening skills with both clients and staff, ensuring sound, empathetic, and culturally safe communications.
• Acts ethically and with the highest degree of confidentiality.
• Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude.
