About the Role:

">

The Senior Regional Mortgage Director will lead the mortgage origination team and operations for the Prairies Region (Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) mortgage investment office based in Calgary. Key responsibilities include:

  • ">
  • Mentoring and developing direct reports to enhance their potential and promote a motivated, high-performing culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and diverse perspectives.">
  • Establishing the strategic direction of the branch and overseeing the execution of the annual business plan/objectives.">
  • Ensuring the overall success of the region, encompassing new business volumes, profitability, and credit performance of the portfolio.">
  • Source, review, analyze, and underwrite mortgage loan opportunities for consideration and approval, primarily term loans ranging from $10 million to $200 million.">
  • Preparing comprehensive underwriting packages and presenting for approval.">
  • Maintaining high-quality underwriting, structuring, and risk management practices aligned with appropriate policies/procedures to make sound lending decisions.">
  • Optimizing risk/return to ensure appropriate margins and profitability at both transaction and portfolio levels.">
  • Managing the closing of loan transactions through collaboration with branch staff, legal counsel, and clients/brokers.">
  • Helping manage and provide reporting on the existing Prairies portfolio (over $1 billion) and reviewing/recommending amendments to existing mortgages/security.">
  • Overseeing business and market development within the region.">
  • Maintaining relationships with existing clients, real estate/mortgage brokerage firms, and seeking new relationships to generate mortgage investment opportunities.">
  • Maintaining expert local commercial real estate knowledge within the market.">
  • Maintaining accurate transaction records, tracking deal flow/progression through the transaction lifecycle, and ensuring compliance with all internal/regulatory requirements for the portfolio and team.">

Requirements and Qualifications:

">

To be successful in this role, you will need:

">
  • ">
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience with proven ability to analyze complex commercial and multi-family residential (including CMHC Insured) lending opportunities.">
  • A minimum of 3 years' prior leadership experience.">
  • Sound credit judgment and a risk management mindset in assessing and recommending potential transactions for approval.">
  • The ability to structure transactions that balance risk, profitability, and competitiveness.">
  • A strong understanding of mortgage security documentation and all legal aspects of commercial mortgages.">
  • The ability to analyze and understand appraisals, environmental reports, engineering/cost consulting reports, and financial statement analysis.">
  • Proven account management and business development abilities with client-facing experience in a highly competitive market environment.">
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.">
  • A highly motivated individual who can collaborate and liaise well with other senior leaders.">
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.">
  • Excellent research skills.">

This role comes with a competitive salary range estimated to be around $150,000 - $250,000 per year, depending on your experience and qualifications.
