Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a highly skilled Molecular Pathology Scientist to join our team in the Division of Anatomical Pathology. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for conducting advanced molecular analyses to aid in the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic decision-making for various diseases, with a focus on cancer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and interpret complex molecular tests, with a focus on genomic techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret molecular data to identify genetic mutations, alterations, and biomarkers relevant to patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Triage, review, and interpret molecular assay results, with reporting to the Medical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
  • Supervise all molecular diagnostic assays in the laboratory.
  • Develop and validate new assays, monitor existing assay protocols, and ensure laboratory accreditation through administrative activities.
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of diagnostic accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with researchers on studies related to molecular pathology and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory protocols, quality control standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and documentation.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and external quality assurance programs.
  • Work closely with pathologists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals to discuss molecular findings and their clinical implications.
  • Provide expert consultation on molecular pathology results and assist in the interpretation of complex cases.
Qualifications
  • PhD degree in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field is required.
  • Clinical appointment at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (or eligibility for the same) may be applicable.
  • Three (3) years' recent, related experience in a clinical molecular pathology laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
