Job Summary

The City of Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Intake Specialist to join our Application Screening Unit. As an Intake Specialist, you will be responsible for gathering accurate and detailed information from City of Ottawa residents who are applying for various programs and services.

You will conduct telephone interviews, complete assessments based on personal and financial circumstances, determine potential eligibility for programs or services, and schedule applicants for the next point of contact. You will also render decisions of ineligibility and refer callers to other appropriate public or community services for assistance.

This is a challenging role that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be part of a team that is dedicated to providing excellent customer service and ensuring that our residents receive the support they need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather accurate and detailed information from applicants
  • Conduct telephone interviews and complete assessments
  • Determine potential eligibility for programs or services
  • Schedule applicants for the next point of contact
  • Render decisions of ineligibility and refer callers to other services

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Minimum of 4 years of clerical experience, with 1 year in a social services or customer services field
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, policy, and procedures
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide excellent customer service
