Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Internal Auditor to join our team at the UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. As an Internal Auditor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of our internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct audits to assess controls, operational and technical efficiencies, and compliance with selected policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive audit program providing assurance and consulting services to management staff, maintaining full independence.
  • Review and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting, financial, administrative, environmental, and operating controls and procedures of the University.
  • Make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed; report the findings; and monitor management's response and implementation.
  • Review University records to determine compliance with procedures and appropriate laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with major coursework in accounting required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in auditing required.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, generally accepted auditing standards, and governmental accounting standards required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within a college or university setting is preferred.
  • Experience with SCT SunGard Banner or similar system is preferred.
  • Experience in working in diverse cultures is preferred.
