Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our dispatch department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient coordination of resources, timely delivery of goods or services, and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Management: Supervise and manage a team of dispatchers, ensuring their productivity and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  2. Issue Resolution: Address any issues or delays in delivery or service and implement solutions to mitigate future occurrences.
  3. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of dispatch activities, including delivery schedules, vehicle maintenance, and customer interactions.
  4. Performance Evaluation: Evaluate performance metrics and implement improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and safety standards, including DOT/MTO guidelines.
  6. Training and Development: Train and mentor dispatch staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  7. Customer Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  8. Escalated Inquiries: Handle escalated customer inquiries or complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  9. Scheduling: Create weekly/monthly schedules for highway and city drivers.
  10. Route Optimization: Analyze highway lanes to maximize profitability and plan trucks accordingly.
  11. Fleet Management: Coordinate with the dispatch team to manage driver hours and downtime.
  12. Business Development: Identify opportunities with customers, generate leads, and develop quotes to win lanes.
  13. System Management: Monitor fleet telematics, Load Link, and Border Connect and ensure rates are updated in the system promptly or as instructed.
  14. Partnerships: Work hand in hand with ASL's partner companies to generate additional lanes to increase fleet volumes.
  15. Safety and Compliance: Work closely with Safety and Compliance Supervisor/Manager to ensure a safe driver fleet for ASL.
  16. Operational Analysis: Perform operational analysis and recommend modifications to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Requirements:

  1. Experience: Must have 5 years of Dispatch Manager experience.
  2. Skills: Experience with P&L, Budget Management, and working with a budget/metrics/KPIs.
  3. Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
  4. Leadership: Proven experience in dispatch operations, logistics, or transportation management.
  5. Communication: Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  6. Asset Fleet Management: Must have experience managing an asset fleet dispatch department, with 50 plus trucks and 125 plus trailers, dry vans, reefers, tandem, /tri/quads.
  7. Problem-Solving: Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  8. Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.
  9. Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer systems and dispatch software.
  10. Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
  11. Adaptability: Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  12. Availability: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  13. License: AZ license an asset.
