Education Assistant (Special Education) Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and caring individual to join our team as an Education Assistant (Special Education) in the Chilliwack School District.

About the Role

As an Education Assistant (Special Education), you will work closely with students, teachers, and staff to provide support and assistance to students with special needs. Your role will involve:

  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to students to reinforce instruction and promote personal independence and self-care.
  • Assisting with student supervision and classroom management to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Performing procedures as directed by a Health Care professional, including catheterization, tube feeding, and seizure management.
  • Administering student medication and providing First Aid as needed.
  • Assisting with occupational and physiotherapy programs, and encouraging the development of social and life skills.
  • Conferring with special education and classroom teachers and parents to determine student needs and progress.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A high school diploma and special education assistant certificate or equivalent.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge of computer functions.
  • A valid Safety Oriented First Aid certificate.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial issues of special needs students.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System and Workers' Compensation Board regulations.
