Job Summary

We are seeking an Adventure Leader to join our team at Norfolk County, responsible for leading a group of campers in one of our Outdoor Adventure Camps. This position requires excellent leadership and programming skills, with a focus on promoting healthy child development and ensuring the well-being of our campers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging programs for children aged 5-12
  • Supervise a group of 1-10 campers, providing lifeguarding duties during swim times
  • Ensure the safety and inclusivity of all camp activities, adhering to High Five principles
  • Develop strong relationships with parents, communicating effectively and addressing their concerns
  • Collaborate with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive camp environment
  • Assist with special events and water activities, such as swimming lessons and pool games
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report absences promptly
  • Evaluate situations that may pose risks to camper safety and take proactive measures to mitigate them

Requirements:

  • High School/College/University student, minimum 15 years of age
  • NL Certification, pool option, waterfront is considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid, C.P.R Level C HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development (if hired, must be obtained by July 7)
  • Experience working with children, knowledge of child development, crafts, sports, music, and/or games
  • Leadership experience, such as student council or youth council membership
  • Ability to facilitate and adapt program plans daily
  • Excellent customer service and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

Benefits:

  • Estimated salary: $18.92 per hour
  • Up to 40 hours per week
  • Approximately 3-month contract, commencing May 24 to August 22
