About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as an Instructional Assistant for the Heavy Equipment Technician Program at NAIT.

Job Summary:

  • Maintain and operate lab/shop spaces, ensuring a safe and clean environment for students.
  • Deliver technical lessons in the lab/shop environment, using existing rubrics and assessment tools provided by instructors.
  • Evaluate student performance based on established criteria and provide feedback.
  • Liaise with other sections or programs as required.
Key ResponsibilitiesLab/Shop Operations
  • Ensure lab security and maintain equipment calibration.
  • Manufacture specialized items when required.
  • Prepare, setup, and dismantle lab/shop exercises.
Inventory and Budget Control
  • Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment.
  • Obtain quotes for new equipment purchases.
  • Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature.
Instructional Support
  • Teach technical activities/lessons independently or as part of a team.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide feedback.
  • Supervise students during lab/shop activities.
Student Support
  • Provide tutorial/remedial support to students.
  • Assist students in developing and executing technical projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted.
