Job Title: Assistant Store Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Store Manager to join our team at Metro Inc. As a key member of our store management team, you will be responsible for assisting the Store Manager in providing day-to-day management of the store, including growing sales, staffing, merchandising, expense control, and delivering a superior shopping experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving or exceeding weekly, period, and fiscal year store goals and objectives, including sales, profit, margin targets, shrink targets, and labor targets.
  • Implement various merchandising programs, procedures, and processes to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability.
  • Work with Department Managers to establish productivity goals and operational standards, ensuring merchandise is ordered and displayed according to company planograms.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Provide leadership by hiring, training, directing, and developing a customer-focused staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technology initiatives and ensure staff proficiency.
  • Monitor competitive activity in the local market and provide recommendations to Operations to overcome competitive disadvantages.
  • Participate in store-based initiatives to enhance community involvement and the store's image as a supporter of community activities.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and union business representatives.

Requirements:

  • College or university education.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive management experience in retail (grocery preferred).
  • Strong business acumen, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
