About the Role:

This position provides critical support to our veterinarians by assisting with all aspects of anesthesia and surgery for both privately owned and shelter animals. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, career-minded, and passionate about delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians with anesthesia and surgery procedures, including administering medications and performing treatments.
  • Conduct pre-surgical and pre-vaccination examinations, and provide support to other hospital staff as needed.
  • Manage patient care duties, including triage, medication administration, and laboratory work.
  • Perform diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using various diagnostic equipment.
  • Assist with humane euthanasia and other duties as assigned.

Client Communication:

  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, including educating them on patient care and treatment.
  • Update clients on patient status and perform discharges.
  • Create discharge/home care instructions and perform callbacks as needed.

Housekeeping and Administrative Duties:

  • Clean and maintain all equipment, including anesthetic, laboratory, and x-ray machines.
  • Ensure accurate fee placement for patient visits.
  • Stock supplies as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a veterinary technologist program accredited by the CVMA and registration with the BCVTA.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality customer service and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to fulfill physical demands of the job, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
  • Understanding of safety requirements and ability to follow protocols.
