Job Title: Legal Counsel

Amico Affiliates Inc. is a dynamic and diversified Canadian-owned development and construction company seeking a skilled Legal Counsel to join our team.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly experienced and knowledgeable Legal Counsel to provide expert advice and support to our Project Commercial team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in construction law, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and support to the Project Commercial team on contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and risk management.
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to construction projects.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Project Procurement and Commercial Teams to identify and analyze legal risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide training and support to project team members on contracts, standard form agreements, and legal risk management.
  • Assist in the review of contract documents and identify potential legal issues and risks.
  • Work with the Project Team to identify and address significant cost, schedule, and contractual issues.
  • Support the Project Team in tracking and responding to contract change events and risk management related to insurance and third-party claims.
  • Provide legal support on crisis management, employment disputes, and contract disputes.
  • Advise and support Project Senior Management on matters related to project safety incidents and community issues.
Requirements:
  • A current license to practice law in Ontario and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • ~8+ years of post-call experience at a well-respected law firm or in-house construction legal department.
  • Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills in complex and adversarial situations.
  • Sound judgment and legal reasoning, excellent analytical skills, and creativity in solving problems.
