Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Forest Resource Leader to join our team at Norfolk County Parks Department. This exciting opportunity will provide the successful candidate with valuable experience in forest management, conservation, and community engagement.

About the Role:

  • Assist in tree planting, urban tree inventory, stream restoration, electrofishing, invasive species control, and other forestry-related duties.
  • Coordinate with community partners to develop and schedule work plans for the Forestry crew.
  • Lead the Forestry crew team and ensure effective communication among team members.
  • Maintain accurate data collection and perform daily circle checks on equipment.
  • Prepare a comprehensive final report outlining project accomplishments and resources used.

Requirements:

  • College or university education with a preference for candidates with Arboriculture, Horticulture Technician, Environmental Studies/Sciences, Landscape Design/Architecture, Forestry Technician, or Urban Forestry background.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, farming, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of GPS/GIS technology and applications.
  • Class G2 Driver's License and ability to operate various equipment.

Salary and Benefits:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of $18.92 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Additionally, they will be eligible for benefits, including standard first aid and CPR certification, as well as opportunities for professional development and growth.

Work Environment:

This is a temporary full-time position with approximately 4 months' duration, commencing April 22, 2025. The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to accommodate weekends, evenings, and holidays. They must be willing to travel extensively throughout Norfolk County and work in outdoor environments, lifting up to 50 pounds.
