Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Drydock Estimator to join our team at Seaspan. This is a full-time, permanent position that requires strong analytical and mathematical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a customer-focused approach.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be accountable for preparing accurate labour and material estimates for drydocking, ship maintenance, repair, conversions, and new constructions. They will work closely with owners, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless bid preparation and contract execution.

This role also involves:

  • Soliciting bids for work to be contracted out, analyzing quotations, and selecting the best option
  • Providing technical and administrative assistance to the production department, including drawing preparation, customer contact management, and estimating record-keeping
  • Preparing and submitting bid documents and reports, including monthly estimating reports for the manager
  • Maintaining positive relationships with customers through pre- and post-contract communication
About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have:

  • A Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering
  • At least 10 years of operational or technical experience in the ship repair industry, with a minimum of 5 years of estimating experience
  • Demonstrated business ethics, integrity, and honesty in all situations
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, including knowledge of correct marine terminology
  • A strong sense of customer service orientation and analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiating, and interpersonal skills
