Job Summary
The 4th Class Power Engineer/Maintenance Worker performs trades duties approaching the journeyman level in various trades areas, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and welding. This role involves maintenance and repair duties related to buildings and equipment, as well as mechanical and electrical repairs to plant systems such as heating, air handling units, and emergency power systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates, repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on air handling units, mixing boxes, VAVs, emergency power, and other related equipment.
- Monitors and adjusts temperature control systems, pressure, and feed water levels.
- Performs maintenance and repair duties on HVAC and electrical systems, including operating mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems.
- Monitors and adjusts chemical treatment systems.
- Performs preventative and demand maintenance on heat exchangers, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Tests and maintains chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and repairs/adjusts as required.
- Performs water treatment analyses and adds chemicals as required.
- Maintains, repairs, replaces, and extends steam piping systems, including components of the physical plant.
- Installs plumbing fixtures and systems, including taps, sinks, and toilets.
- Performs electrical and mechanical repairs to equipment, including autoclaves, washers, sterilizers, and dryers.
- Performs maintenance work, including stripping, cleaning, lubricating, repairing, replacing, and assembling castors, wheels, and brakes on equipment.
- Constructs items, including walls, doors, floors, ceilings, and windows.
- Performs plastering, painting, and decorating, including selecting and applying various paint, plaster, and wall coverings.
- Processes individual purchase requests, including meeting with area personnel, determining requirements, and preparing purchase orders.
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment.
- Maintains a safe and tidy work environment, following security measures and standard procedures.
Requirements
- Certificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC.
- Two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism.
