Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a Bachelor's degree in Child/Youth Care or a related discipline, along with three years of recent experience in the assessment and treatment of children and youth with psychiatric/mental health concerns. A working knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act, and the Child, Family and Community Service Act is also essential. Additionally, a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct age-appropriate mental health assessments, including risk to self/others and mental status.
  • Apply crisis intervention and stabilization principles.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under pressure, in high-acuity situations.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients/clients, and families/significant others.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment by utilizing de-escalation skills and promoting a culture of respect and empathy.
  • Organize work and prioritize tasks effectively, managing multiple demands and pressures.
  • Communicate effectively in writing, using clear and concise language.
  • Utilize computer software, such as Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records, to support work tasks.
  • Demonstrate physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
