Calian Group is seeking a skilled Bilingual Technical Writer to join our team in Ottawa, ON. As a key member of our Advanced Technologies department, you will provide document quality control support to DTAES and DGAEPM.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced technical writer with expertise in creating high-quality documentation in both English and French. The successful candidate will have a strong background in archival studies, library sciences, or technical writing, as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

The estimated salary for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires the creation and editing of complex documents and forms using MS Word and PDF software. You will also be responsible for reviewing and editing TAP documents and correspondence to ensure accuracy and compliance with DTAES technical writing standards.

Responsibilities
  1. Complete all documentation tasks assigned by DTAES 2-2-2-2, Airworthiness Documentation Coordinator, to meet TAP document deliverable timelines and standards.
  2. Review and edit TAP documents and correspondence to ensure accuracy and compliance with DTAES technical writing standards in both official languages.
  3. Consult with document Offices of Primary Interest (OPIs) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to resolve discrepancies in reviewed material.
  4. Perform translation accuracy checks of TAP document translated by third-parties, and verify the quality, required layout, grammar and style of the deliverables.
Requirements
  • Must be eligible for or currently hold a valid Secret (Level II) Clearance with the Government of Canada.
  • Must have a certificate, diploma, or degree in archival studies, library sciences, or technical writing, or other discipline that focuses on information and documentation management from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Must have five (5) years' experience working as a librarian OR Must have two (2) years' experience working as a librarian or technical writer within a government department OR Must have one (1) year experience working as a librarian or technical writer in the Department of National Defence OR Must have been the designated Technical Authority on a DND Publications Management Services (PMS) contract.
  • Must be fluent in English and French.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word and PDF software (e.g., Adobe Pro, Foxit) to be able to create and edit complex documents and forms.
