About The National Ballet of Canada

The National Ballet of Canada is a world-renowned arts institution, celebrated for its remarkable dancers and diverse repertoire of traditional and contemporary work. Our Education and Community Engagement programs promote dance to youth and broader communities.

About the Position

This seasonal role reports to the Technical Director and provides technical and production support for all National Ballet of Canada performances, including YOU dance and Special Events. The successful candidate will assist in obtaining technical requirements, creating schedules, and arranging for equipment and supplies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary activities and responsibilities of this role include:

  • Obtaining technical requirements for YOU dance activities and special events
  • Creating cost estimates and schedules as required
  • Arranging for and supervising technical crews as required for YOU dance set-ups and events
  • Providing on-site support to YOU Dance Stage Manager, including driving
  • Providing general production assistance for events and live streams at the Walter Carsen Centre and the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts
  • Assisting in the documentation, record keeping, and databasing of all production information
  • Assisting in research and obtaining technical information for future productions
  • Assisting the Technical Director in the day-to-day operations of the production department
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary education in a technical/production field
  • Experience working in both unionized and office environments
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Vectorworks
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation in the performance industry
  • Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced environment under time constraints
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required
  • Class G Driver's License
Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work out of the main office, The Walter Carsen Centre, and the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. They must be able to lift 50 pounds and be physically capable to squat and move quickly. They will also be required to drive a vehicle between YOU dance venues.
