Overview:


The Bar Manager is responsible for the overall food and beverage service operations of the Highwayman Pub.


This includes managing the quality, quantity, and presentation of all food prepared, as well as maintaining high standards of cleanliness and adhering to local government food safety rules and regulations.


The Bar Manager will also oversee the recruiting, training, and scheduling of server team members, as well as managing labor costs and implementing company programs and policies.


Responsibilities:



  • Ensure quality, quantity, and presentation of all food prepared meets standards for freshness, appearance, and consistency
  • Directly oversee and assist with serving and cleaning
  • Oversee recruiting, training, and scheduling of server team members
  • Manage labor costs and implement company programs and policies
  • Ensure adherence to food safety regulations, liquor licensing, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
  • Work closely with General Manager to ensure efficient delivery and cost control of all bar-related items
  • Manage a team of 10-15 server team members
  • Perform cash duties, maintain paperwork, and prepare schedules for all bar staff
  • Maintain a positive and engaged working environment based on excellence, discipline, learning, and development, teamwork, respect, and having fun
  • Conduct performance management, coaching, and counseling to ensure optimum performance in accordance with Otter's policies and procedures
  • Provide recognition of colleagues who meet and exceed standards in a sincere and meaningful way
  • Train servers according to training guidelines and maintain up-to-date skills assessment and certification for each team member as required
  • Responsible for purchasing and maintaining all liquor-related and bar service items
  • Contribute to menu planning, food service, and special events with General Manager and other key stakeholders
  • Complete an accurate inventory count of beverages on a monthly basis and work closely with the Controller and General Manager to ensure inventory accuracy according to plan
  • Develop and maintain a team environment based on Otter Co-op's brand and values of Integrity, Community, and Excellence
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:


Minimum 2 years' experience as a bartender and/or Restaurant Assistant Manager


Inter-Provincial trade qualification (Journeyman/Red Seal) and/or diploma/certificate from a recognized culinary school an asset


Must have all valid certificates needed to operate a bar and Serving it Right


Ability to accurately estimate labor and beverage costs an asset


Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions


Ability to read and interpret documents such as financial and other reports and procedure manuals


Ability to write routine reports and correspondence


Strong ability to communicate effectively and ensure compliance with standards, rules, and regulations


Computer literate in systems related to the restaurant industry as well as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)


Ability to inspire and engage a team with proven leadership techniques


Ability to take direction, offer direction, and work in a team environment


Must have superior organization, leadership, and communication skills


Ability to delegate and supervise a variety of team members to consistently produce results


Thorough knowledge of purchasing and maintaining a proper inventory


Ability to negotiate with various vendors to attain the best costing an asset


Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays when the Pub is busiest


First Aid an asset


Must be able to deal with reasonable work-related stress resulting from the need to manage within legislative, budgetary, and time constraints on a regular basis


Must be able to deal with issues arising from guest complaints (internal and external) in a timely manner using problem-solving and de-escalation techniques


This position is based out of our Highwayman Pub in South Surrey, though it may require occasional travel and work at other locations as business needs arise
