ROLE SUMMARY:

NorQuest College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a critical role in providing strategic legal advice and guidance to support the College's mission and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the College's leadership team and employees on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, governance, and risk management.
  • Develop and implement effective legal strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and address legal issues and develop solutions to support the College's goals and objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in relevant laws and regulations and provide guidance to the College's leadership team and employees on how to comply.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external legal counsel and other stakeholders to ensure the College's legal needs are met.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Law degree from an accredited institution and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Significant public sector experience is required, with experience working as legal counsel at a post-secondary institution being a strong asset.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing on strategic plans that enable the achievement of short and long-term goals.
  • Broad legal expertise and the ability to advise on diverse subject matters that may concern the College.
  • Direct experience working with boards.
