Education Liaison

Job Summary:
The Educational Interpreter will facilitate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, while also assisting with daily activities and providing support to students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acts as a resource to special education staff to support students and staff.
- Assists regular education staff in orienting them to the functions of an interpreter.
- Modifies classroom logistics to meet the needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Interprets or transliterates language during classroom instruction to facilitate effective communication.
- Maintains a daily notebook/log to report student progress on objectives and daily work.
- Monitors individual students to provide assistance as needed and ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in meetings to receive and/or convey information related to the general goals of education to parents and/or students who may be deaf or hard of hearing.
- Prepares for daily classroom lectures and activities to provide a learning environment that meets the differing needs of students.
- Provides support/tutoring to students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direct supervision of the teacher of the deaf /hard of hearing.
- Provides students who are deaf or hard of hearing with equal access to academic and nonacademic activities.
Requirements:
- High school graduation or GED
- Certification by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf preferred
- Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability
