Job Description

The Technical Director of Virtual Production & Unreal Engine will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of our virtual production stage, ensuring seamless integration of technology and creativity. This role demands a balance of technical expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges of virtual production.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Software Development Expertise: Exhibit mastery in all aspects of software development, with a special focus on Unreal Engine. Lead the development and implementation of advanced software solutions to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of the virtual production stage.
  2. Tool Building and Automation: Direct and support a team of developers in the creation of bespoke automation tools tailored to the specific needs of virtual production. Continuously evaluate and refine tool-building processes to ensure they meet production requirements and industry standards.
  3. On-Set Problem Solving: Provide real-time technical support during production, promptly addressing and resolving any issues that arise on set. Implement proactive strategies to minimize downtime and technical disruptions during filming.
  4. Collaboration with Engine Operators: Work closely with engine operators to understand their needs and challenges, ensuring that technical solutions are user-friendly and effective. Facilitate a seamless integration of software tools and engine operations, promoting a collaborative and efficient working environment.
  5. Technical Leadership and Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of developers, fostering an environment of learning, innovation, and excellence. Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including directors, producers, and other technical personnel, to align technical objectives with creative vision.
  6. Quality Assurance and Testing: Oversee the testing and quality assurance of all software and tools developed, ensuring they are reliable, efficient, and meet the high standards of virtual production. Stay abreast of new technologies and industry trends, incorporating them into the virtual production process where beneficial.
Requirements
  • Extensive experience in software development, particularly in Unreal Engine.
  • Proven track record in tool building and automation within a virtual production or similar environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially under the pressure of live production settings.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and production techniques.
Estimate Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
