Sr Designer Role

The Sr Designer position plays a critical role in completing complex designs, including kinematic analysis, FEA, and development of GD&T and support tolerance stack-ups.

Responsibilities

  • Design new products according to customer requirements
  • Research opportunities for new product design
  • Analyze new designs and products for quality, technical, and economic feasibility
  • Complete designs and tasks such as drawing reviews, DFMEA, DV testing, root cause analysis, and assistance with characteristic maps and LV drawings
  • Maintain relevant records related to new products for future reference
  • Organize and coordinate CAD information, liaise with departments, and enhance overall performance and customer satisfaction
  • Support CAD and material/process specification for quoting activity, ensuring excellent knowledge of process capability, tooling, and manufacturing tolerances
  • Provide technical communication, including SR&ED tax project outlines, design review presentations, and patent applications
  • Translate/pull down data from customers and use standard products to assist with quote build-up processes
  • Evaluate safety standards and communicate them effectively
  • Maintain communication and utilize other departmental expertise as required
  • Ensure compliance with business management and environmental management systems requirements
  • Work in accordance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, and ensure departmental employees receive necessary training
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within Techform, a division of Magna Closures
  • Foster internal and external customer satisfaction through all duties
Requirements
  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5-10 years of complex mechanism design experience
  • Able to create and interpret complex blueprints
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail essential
  • Expertise in CAD/CAE (FEA and dynamic simulation, numerical modeling) required
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise required
  • Familiarity with network organization, secure website access, software installation, maintenance, and MS Office applications
