About the Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced labour relations specialist to join our team as a Junior Labour Lawyer. Reporting directly to the Managing Lawyer, Labour Law Department, Legal Services, this individual will act as a corporate resource to NSHA and IWK, providing sound legal advice, advocacy, representation, education, and targeted capacity development in labour law within a context of supporting the client's strategic objectives and understanding.

Key Responsibilities:

This role involves interpreting collective agreements, providing legal advice and strategic direction, analysing complex problems, and advising on grievances. The successful candidate will also represent NSHA and IWK at labour arbitrations and other forms of dispute resolution, and may be required to lead negotiations for collective bargaining and essential services.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB/JD) degree
  • Practicing member of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society or eligible to become a practicing member
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in labour law

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in labour law, including client relations, collective bargaining, essential services, labour arbitrations, and alternative dispute resolution
  • Knowledge of administrative law, employment law, human rights law, privacy law, and labour legislation and regulations
  • Experience representing clients before labour and other administrative tribunals

Compensation and Benefits:

The successful candidate can expect a competitive salary of $45.45 - $56.81 per hour, plus benefits including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
