Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and prepare meats for processing and cutting
  • Cut carcasses, sides, and quarters to create standard cuts of meat
  • Wrap and package prepared meats for sale
  • Remove bones from meat and cut poultry into parts
  • Weigh meats for sale and price meat products
  • Clean and prepare fish and shellfish for sale
  • Sell meats to customers and provide excellent customer service
  • Cut fish into steaks and fillets and shape, lace, and tie roasts and other meats
  • Supervise other butchers, meat cutters, and fishmongers and train new staff members
  • Grind meats and prepare special orders for customers
Requirements:
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • Experience in the meat industry is an asset
