About the Opportunity



At Volunteer Manitoba, we are seeking friendly and supportive individuals to serve as conversation partners for English language learners.



About the Role



As a conversation partner, you will engage in informal online or in-person conversations with your assigned language learner. Your goal is to provide a comfortable and encouraging environment where they can practice their English skills.



Responsibilities:




  • Meet with your language learner on a regular basis, either online via Zoom or in-person at a designated location.
  • Engage in conversation, using everyday topics and current events to help your learner improve their speaking skills.
  • Encourage and support your learner, helping them build confidence in their English abilities.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, working around your learner's schedule and needs.


Requirements:




  • You must be a long-time Canadian resident or an established immigrant.
  • You must be fluent in English, with a minimum CLB of 8 or equivalent.
  • Adult EAL/ESL teaching experience or certification (e.g., Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language, CTESL) is an asset.
  • Other teaching or tutoring experience is also an asset.
  • You must have experience using Zoom for online classes.
  • Shifts are available on weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays.
  • You must be willing to participate in training and orientation.
