Job Overview

The Senior Accountant works in a team environment preparing assurance, compilation, tax, and other engagement files under the supervision of a Manager, Senior Manager, or Partner. This role involves preparing complex engagement files or participating as part of a larger team completing assigned work. The Senior Accountant demonstrates ownership of all assigned engagements and effectively supervises Staff Accountants and Intermediate Staff Accountants.

Responsibilities
  • BUILD RAPPORT WITH INTERNAL STAFF AND CLIENTS AS THE PRIMARY POINT OF CONTACT FOR SOME CLIENTS
  • WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH INTERNAL ENGAGEMENT TEAMS BY COMMUNICATING LEVEL OF WORK ASSIGNED AND STATUS OF JOBS TO MANAGERS AND PARTNERS
  • DEVELOP GOOD KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF CLIENTS' OPERATIONS AND THEIR BUSINESS
  • RESPECT TIMELINESS IN COMPLETION OF WORK ASSIGNED AND PROMPTLY ADVISE MANAGERS/PARTNER OF ISSUES THAT MAY RESULT IN THEM GOING OVER BUDGET AND ANY ISSUES THAT COULD REQUIRE MORE RESOURCES FOR PLANNING
  • ASSIST IN SUPERVISION OF STAFF ACCOUNTANTS AND INTERMEDIATE STAFF ACCOUNTANTS
  • ADHERE TO FIRM PROCEDURES AND INTERNAL PROCEDURES INCLUDING UPDATING IFirm FOR TIMEKEEPING, JOB STATUS, AND OTHER CRITICAL FIELDS
  • PRIORITIZE COMPLETION OF ENGAGEMENTS SUCH AS ASSURANCE AND COMPILATION ENGAGEMENTS
  • TAX PREPARATION INCLUDING PERSONAL T1, CORPORATE TAX RETURNS (T2s), CHARITY RETURNS, AND OTHER TAX FILINGS SUCH AS T24s, T5s GST RETURNS
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE OR OTHER RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
  • WORKING TOWARDS COMPLETING OR COMPLETED A POST-SECONDARY CERTIFICATE, UNIVERSITY DEGREE, OR CPA DESIGNATION
  • DEVELOPS AND ENHANCES RELATIONSHIPS BY FOCUSING ON NEEDS, AND BUILDs RAPPORT EASILY
  • HIGH LEVEL OF PROBLEM-SOLVING AND JUDGMENT SKILLS TO MANAGE CLIENT EXPECTATIONS
  • COMMITTED TO CONTINUOUS LEARNING, INCLUDING QUESTIONING, AND LEARNING NEW CONCEPTS TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THEM IN MORE COMPLEX SITUATIONS
