Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Compliance and Conflicts Counsel in our General Counsel Office Department, reporting to the General Counsel for a 6-month contract. The successful candidate will support the overall management of compliance and risk matters as well as professional responsibility obligations at the firm.

This role involves working closely with various stakeholders on issues related to client terms of engagement, errors & omissions, conflicts of interest, and ethics and professional responsibility.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in drafting complex engagement letters and updating standard form templates to align with best practices.
  2. Review, track, and negotiate client outside counsel guidelines and retainer agreements, identifying unacceptable terms that require further negotiation.
  3. Liaise with the Firm's professional liability insurers to repair lawyer errors and reduce the risk of litigation against the firm.
  4. Work with the Records Management team to ensure proper information governance and record retention policies are in place.
  5. Assist lawyers in reviewing and interpreting conflicts reports and obtaining required consents.
  6. Develop and deliver training to lawyers and administrative professionals on ethics and professional responsibility, as well as firm policies and procedures relating to risk management.
  7. Negotiate and draft agreements on behalf of the firm to reduce risk and secure favourable terms.
  8. Collaborate with the IT Security Team to protect the firm from cyber threats and respond to client security audits.
  9. Support the update, development, implementation, and communication of firm policies and procedures.
  10. Research legal and regulatory developments and draft memoranda.
