Public Health Enforcement Officer

In this role, you will play a critical part in implementing and enforcing tobacco control legislation in the community. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct regular inspections of tobacco retailers to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and standards.
The Tobacco Control Officer is responsible for identifying all retailers of tobacco products and conducting checks, surveys, and surveillance at various sites within the region to assess compliance with applicable tobacco control legislation. This involves issuing warning letters, issuing violation tickets, and attending court proceedings when education fails.
Your expertise in regulatory enforcement and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing will be essential in providing advice and information to the community and public on tobacco control matters. You will work closely with other health professionals to deliver tobacco control programs, initiatives, and objectives.
The ideal candidate will have a diploma in social sciences, education, policing, or a health-related field and three years' recent experience in regulatory enforcement. A valid B.C. Class V Driver's license and access to own vehicle are also required.
This position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to utilize discretion appropriately when enforcing regulations, and effective working relationships with others. If you are a detail-oriented individual who can prioritize tasks and maintain accurate records, we encourage you to apply.
