Purchasing Agent Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Purchasing Agent to join our team at New Castle Hotels & Resorts. As a Purchasing Agent, you will be responsible for purchasing goods and services for our hotels, ensuring quality and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement and Inventory Management - Assist the Executive Chef in purchasing food, beverages, and controllable items, ensuring quality and profitability.
  • Process Improvement - Develop means to improve the purchasing process and financials.
  • Reporting and Compliance - Generate and provide accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Delivery Inspection - Ensure inspection of all deliveries to verify accuracy and quality of product.
  • Sanitation and Safety - Ensure compliance with food handling and sanitation standards. Implement and enforce all control procedures for property goods entering through the purchasing/receiving areas.
  • Communication and Teamwork - Keep departments informed by confirming and clarifying purchase orders or contracts. Work with kitchen and food and beverage service to plan upcoming events through 30/60/90 days forecast.
  • Inventory Control - Maintain inventory controls for proper levels, dating, rotation, requisitions, etc. Assist in inventory process as needed.
  • Leadership and Financial Management - Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others. Demonstrate knowledge of budgets, operating statements, and payroll progress reports as needed to maintain financial management of the department.
  • Goal Achievement - Achieve and exceed goals, including performance goals, budget goals, team goals, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years in a purchasing role with strong knowledge of kitchen operations, inventory management, and purchasing procedures.
  • College degree in accounting or finance preferred.
  • Valid ServeSafe and Food Handlers certificates required.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to make timely, well-informed decisions.
  • Capability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods, bend, stretch, twist, or reach, and work in variable temperatures and noise levels.
  • Physical stamina for long hours on your feet, handling heavy objects, and multitasking.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, around chemicals or fumes, and use equipment such as computers, telephones, radios, pallet jacks, flatbeds, and hand trucks.

Duties and Functions
