Job Summary:

To oversee the production activities of front-line employees, ensuring the manufacturing of products in scheduled quantities, at budgeted cost, and acceptable quality. The ideal candidate will manage and participate in the company's safety and environmental programs, identifying and initiating actions to prevent nonconformities.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership to ensure all company safety rules and regulations are observed by employees, including providing a safe workplace and planning resources to achieve site safety goals.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with environmental regulations for the lime facility.
  • Interface with government agencies and follow up on investigations with the Safety Committee and others as needed.
  • Monitor the safety program's effectiveness and environmental compliance.
  • Develop corrective action plans to prevent future customer complaints and prepare training plans to equip employees with necessary skills.
  • Supervise employee tasks to meet sales, production, training, and maintenance requirements.
  • Know and follow the collective agreement.
  • Assign weekly schedules and employee assignments to meet sales, production, training, and maintenance requirements, ensuring quality of product during process.
  • Work closely with the Process Engineer and Maintenance Team to maximize kiln efficiency and minimize unscheduled downtime.
  • Supervise loading of truck shipments and ensure the execution of the daily production plan.
  • Generate maintenance request notifications as needed and monitor key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Attend the daily continuous improvement meeting and provide input.
  • Explain significant variances from the daily plan and recommend changes to upgrade shift performance.
  • Review barriers identified during shift turnover meetings to develop and monitor action plans.
  • Participate in the daily morning production meeting to communicate with production and maintenance.
  • Monitor workload to evaluate staffing levels and document and maintain records.
Job Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in technology, engineering, industrial relations, sciences, or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on quality, safety, environmental matters, process, and people.
  • Strong material management skills and a results-driven attitude.
  • Positive and proactive attitude with the ability to address issues and implement solutions.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory experience in construction, manufacturing, and/or industrial settings related to mining, paper mills, steel plants, refractory, heavy equipment fabrication, stone processing, cement plants, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to fast-paced changing environments.
  • Good solid management skills with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, able to multi-task, problem-solve, and have solid Microsoft Office Suite skills.
