Job Summary

The Community Crisis Counsellor is a key member of the AVI Health and Community Services team, providing acute mobile crisis support and de-escalation services for individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use related crises. This role requires a high level of emotional resilience, critical thinking, and effective communication skills to work with individuals in crisis and provide trauma-informed care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide rapid point of service mental health crisis management and de-escalation, including assessment, suicide intervention, and safety planning.
  • Work collaboratively with the CLCR team to provide comprehensive safety plans and establish post-crisis follow-up care.
  • Utilize situational awareness, assessment, de-escalation, and mental health training to work safely within changing and unpredictable environments.
  • Perform in-person assessments to critically assess and determine the next course of action.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in mental health services, de-escalation, and crisis response.
  • Undergraduate degree in the mental health field or equivalent number of years of work experience in health and/or social care.
  • Crisis intervention skills, including situational awareness, mental health assessments, and suicide intervention.
  • Demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge of harm reduction and health promotion practices.
  • Relevant or applicable training/experience in anti-racism and an analysis of colonialism and its impact on Indigenous Peoples.

The Community Crisis Counsellor will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, responding to crisis calls and providing support to individuals in need. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of emotional resilience and adaptability.

  • A casual schedule with shifts falling between Monday to Sunday, 7:00am to 3:00pm, 12:00pm to 8:00pm, and 5:00pm to 1:00am.
