Job Overview

The Canada West Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Strategic Leadership Officer for Western Canada Development to join our team. This key role will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategies that align policy research with communication, with a focus on engagement to ensure our work is trustworthy, relevant, pragmatic, useful, fundable, and accessible to broad audiences.

About the Role

This is a full-time position located in Calgary, Alberta, with some travel required. The successful candidate will have a strong background in strategic planning, leadership, and operations management, with experience in managing cross-functional teams and working with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans that align policy research with communication, focusing on engagement to ensure our work is impactful and relevant.
  • Liaise closely with the Vice President of Research and Directors to provide guidance and assistance on policy research initiatives, ensuring projects align with goals and strategic plan.
  • Bridge the communication/political aspects of the work with the science/rigour of the research, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
  • Manage engagement support functions, including communications, events, relationship management, fundraising, and grant writing.
  • Oversee financial performance, ensuring efficient use of resources and effective budget management.
  • Provide support to the Chief Executive Officer on Board matters.
  • Serve as the second-in-command, overseeing core operational support functions and liaising with director-level staff as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience in public administration, non-profit/NGO management, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic plans, leading cross-functional teams, and working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and manage details effectively.
  • Passion for Western Canada's development and its place in Canada.
