GIS Planning Assistant

BCIT is seeking a GIS Planning Assistant to support campus development planning initiatives. As a key member of the Campus Planning and Facilities team, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a Geographic Information System (GIS) to support campus planning initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities- Configure and implement a GIS system to support campus development planning initiatives at all BCIT campuses.
- Maintain GIS base plans and maps for BCIT campus properties.
- Liaise with municipal, provincial, and utility agencies to compile and confirm GIS baseline mapping databases.
- Prepare GIS maps and data analysis to support feasibility studies and planning reports.
- Review technical drawings to transfer information into the GIS system and maintain compatibility with other departmental information systems.
- Diploma of Technology in Geography and/or Urban Studies from an institution specializing in GIS and urban planning.
- Two years general related experience plus two years current practical experience working in a city planning department or private sector land use planning firm utilizing a GIS system in an urban planning context.
- Working knowledge of public consultation processes, public opinion survey methodologies, and website graphic design.
- Ability to perform GIS data conversion/editing, map production, spatial data management, and spatial analysis.

Compensation and BenefitsThe estimated annual salary for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 CAD, depending on qualifications and experience. Additional benefits include a defined benefit pension plan, competitive employer-paid extended health and dental plan, and flexible hybrid work arrangements available.
