About the Position
Health PEI is seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Dietitian to join our Diabetes Team. As a key member of our team, you will provide essential diabetes care and education to clients and families across Prince Edward Island.
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Registered Dietitian with a strong background in nutrition assessment, education, and counseling. Your expertise will help individuals with diabetes manage their condition effectively, promoting optimal health outcomes. This role involves working closely with healthcare professionals, educators, and community members to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough nutritional assessments and develop personalized care plans for clients with diabetes.
- Provide ongoing education and support to individuals, groups, and communities on healthy eating, lifestyle management, and medication adherence.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, ensure consistency, and address complex treatment modalities.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and communication with healthcare providers to facilitate seamless referrals and follow-up care.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Food and Nutrition or a related field, along with post-graduate internship in Dietetics or a Master's degree in Community or Human Nutrition.
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) certification or willingness to obtain within three years of employment, with re-certification as per Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board requirements.
- Eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Dietitians and Insulin Adjustment Certification from Health PEI's Provincial Diabetes Program.
- Considerable experience in nutrition-related roles, preferably in a medical setting, with at least two years of recent experience in diabetes programs or five years in related clinical settings, demonstrating strong nutrition assessment skills.
- Possession of Certified Pump Trainer status from Health PEI's Provincial Diabetes Program or willingness to obtain.
- Active membership or eligibility for membership with Dietitians of Canada.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in computer software, including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools.
- A commitment to working collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Benefits
This role offers a competitive salary range of $32.31-$40.38 per hour (Level 17A), with bi-weekly hours of 75 hours, which may include evenings and weekends as required. The successful applicant must undergo a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.
