Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Instrument Technician to join our team. As a Surgical Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly, and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment, and surgical instrumentation. You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI).
Key Responsibilities:
- Decontamination of all surgical instrumentation & flexible/rigid scopes
- Inspection, testing, assembly, wrapping, sterilizing in steam or low temperature, low- & high-level disinfection following prescribed techniques
- Maintenance of rigorous record/documentation as required
- Ensuring instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order
- Performing biological, chemical, and quality assurance testing
- Reporting problems to the supervisor or designate
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program. Completion of an Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
This role requires you to lift 10-20 pounds consistently and standing for hours well performing repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience and knowledge of operating room instrumentation is a requirement; background familiarity with medical terminology and procedures is an asset. Only individuals who have demonstrated a knowledge of and documented competency in all aspects of medical device reprocessing will be given the responsibility for these duties.
