We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rail Signal Project Manager to join our multidisciplinary Canadian Signals & Communications team.

Job Description

As a Rail Signal Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading project pursuits and preparing proposals, participating in business development, and planning and managing each stage of a project to ensure that all contractual commitments are met on time and within budget.

You will identify the necessary resources required for the execution of Signals and Communications projects in the Rail & Transit sector from inception to completion, and develop project scope, identify deliverables, and prepare work plans, schedules and budgets for all project stages.

You will also manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and change management with the goal of producing functionally and financially viable projects that will be completed on time within the authorized budget and to the required quality.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading project controls staff, project coordinators, and overall project team by interfacing with sub-discipline leads.
  • Leading and attending regular coordination meetings internal to the project team as well as client-facing meetings.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of the project scope in order to identify scope creep and initiate the change management process.
  • Negotiating solutions to ensure outcomes meet client expectations and contractual obligations.
  • Ensuring timely internal and external communication throughout all project phases, developing and maintaining meeting minutes, and following up on action items.
  • Complying with the AECOM Quality Management System methodology and project management process.
  • Participating in monthly project reviews to review project status, budget, work plan, schedule, and risks.
  • Conducting progress meetings to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns with various key stakeholders.
  • Ensuring that all project close-out documents are submitted and forwarded to appropriate parties upon completion of the project.
  • Acting as a mentor to junior project management and controls professionals.
  • Enrolling and obtaining the MAP (Managing AECOM Projects) Certification.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (electrical, electronics, software engineering, etc.) + 6 years of relevant experience in project management in rail for signals OR Technical Diploma + 8 years of experience in project management in rail and/or signals.
  • Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years or more of relevant experience in public rail and transit.
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • PMP certification.
  • Known to public transit clients in BC and Alberta, Ontario (i.e. TransLink, BCRTC, TI Corp, MoTI, City of Edmonton, City of Calgary, Metrolinx, and others).
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience for at least one of the following sub-disciplines and familiarity with the other:
    • LRT and Freight rail.
    • Signalling & Train Control (CBTC, ATC, ATO, ATP, PTC, fixed block, level-crossings, OCC workstations and software, interface to OCC video wall, and others).
  • Experience in State of Good Repair projects.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects of various types and complexities.
  • Familiar with other design disciplines typically requiring coordination with Signal design such as Architectural, Structural, Civil, Electrical, System and Mechanical.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and team skills.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Able to multitask due to concurrent projects.
