Our team relies on your expertise to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our chemistry labs. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Following safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Collaborating with the Lab Coordinator and SHERM to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Identifying and reporting any safety concerns or issues to the Lab Coordinator.

Lab Content

You will assist the Lab Coordinator and Course Instructor in designing and preparing lab content to support CH110/CH111 labs. This will involve:
  • Preparing reagents, solutions, glassware, equipment, and other materials for each laboratory exercise.
  • Conducting setup and takedown of stations for each lab exercise.
  • Ensuring proper storage and disposal of chemicals and solutions after each lab.
  • Preparing hazardous waste for disposal according to SHERM practices.

Lab Technical Support

You will provide technical support for our chemistry labs, including:
  • Preparing solutions and materials for each laboratory exercise.
  • Setting up and maintaining lab equipment and glassware.
  • Ensuring the teaching lab and PREP room are cleaned and organized after each lab.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • A minimum MSc degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • Well-developed organizational skills to ensure labs are prepared and delivered on time.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the Lab Coordinator, Course Instructor, and other team members.
  • Ability to work independently and pay close attention to detail.
  • Experience with standard chemistry laboratory equipment and handling chemicals.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time position, with normal hours of work being 8 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Flexibility in hours will be required, including evening hours to accommodate lab sessions. The total hours of work per semester will be 48 hours. Fall lab times are Wednesday 1:30-5:30pm.

Compensation

The hiring salary range is $41.09 to $43.44, with an annual step progression on anniversary date up to $46.96. Considerations for new hire step placements include qualifications, length and depth of required experience, relevant market rates for similar jobs, internal equity, and estimated learning curve in starting the job.
