Patient Service Representative

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at Brightshores. As a Patient Service Representative, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Register and book patient appointments, ensuring accurate and timely scheduling.
- Interview patients to gather medical information and update patient records.
- Confirm patient visits and provide clear instructions and information.
- Support business office functions, including general office administration, payroll, accounts receivable, and bank deposits.
- Enter scheduled orders and maintain data quality.
Requirements:
- High school diploma and/or post-secondary medical secretarial education or equivalent.
- Successful completion of PM Access (testing and training available through Organizational Development and Learning).
- Ability to utilize Cerner Patient Information System, including Admission, Discharge, and Transfer procedures, Electronic Scheduling Module, FirstNet, statistical verification, census reporting, and doctor order entry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Patient-service focused.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Experience working on a switchboard.
- Experience with accounts receivable functions of patient billing, preferred accommodation, incidental fees, insurance company charges, and ALC.
- Capable of filing and chart assembly, reading and entering doctor's orders, patient dietary orders, assisting with patient flow in the ER, and transporting specimens to the Lab (if applicable).
- Microsoft Office experience in Word (to be tested).
- Typing – 30 WPM (to be tested).
- Medical terminology (to be tested).
- Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Capable of filing.
- Ability to work all shifts.
- Recent satisfactory attendance and performance records.
- Knowledge of and adherence to Brightshores' CARE Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence).
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
