Job Summary

The Research Ethics Review Officer is responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of research ethics review at UBC Behavioural Research Board (BREB). This involves implementing and monitoring ethical review processes and standards, promoting compliance with Tri-Council Policy Statement 2, and advising on ethics policies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective ethical review processes and standards
  • Provide guidance and support to researchers on ethics policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with BREB members and stakeholders to ensure consistent and high-quality decisions
  • Manage the review process for ethics applications, including pre-review, review, and post-review activities
  • Develop and maintain educational resources and training programs for researchers and BREB members
  • Work with the Sr. Research Ethics Analyst to develop and implement policies and procedures
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior staff and BREB members

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with a minimum of four years of related experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with researchers, BREB members, and stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply ethics policies and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of autonomy and discretion
  • Knowledge of research ethics principles and policies, including the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2
