Job Opportunity:

The University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Black Cultural Studies, at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

About the Position:

This appointment will be in the area of Black Cultural Studies, with an emphasis on transnational feminism and Black Feminist Studies/traditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach courses in Black Cultural Studies, with a focus on transnational feminism and ecologies.
  • Conduct innovative and independent research in Black Feminist Studies and Ecologies.
  • Publish scholarly work in top-ranked, field-relevant journals.
  • Supervise graduate students and maintain an externally funded research program.
  • Participate in departmental and university service, including teaching, research, and administrative duties.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Women and Gender Studies or a related area in the humanities or interpretive social sciences.
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
  • Strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
  • Experience teaching across interdisciplinary boundaries.
  • Commitment to academic leadership and research supervision.

Selection Criteria:

  • Research excellence, as demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked, field-relevant journals.
  • Teaching excellence, as demonstrated by teaching accomplishments, teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations.
  • Strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
