Job Title: Psychiatric Assessment Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Assessment Nurse to join our team at St. Paul's Hospital, a world-class medical and surgical program located in downtown Vancouver. As a Psychiatric Assessment Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing culturally safe and trauma-informed care to individuals presenting with mental health and/or substance use issues.

About the Role

The Psychiatric Assessment Nurse will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide urgent, intensive assessments, crisis intervention, and stabilization for patients. You will engage with patients and families to develop and implement individualized care plans, promoting a safe, respectful, and civil working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' mental health and substance use needs
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed
  • Collaborate with community mental health programs and law enforcement to ensure seamless care transitions
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects to enhance patient care and outcomes
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN/RPN registrant
  • Three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
